"Optimistic about SPAK's involvement in these elections", Basha

The political leader of the Euro-Atlantic Coalition, Lulzim Basha, in an interview for the "Context" show on ATV Kosova, spoke about the electoral situation in Albania. He said that the merging of votes between Prime Minister Rama and former Prime Minister Berisha has created opportunities for personal political barracks and has prevented citizens from electing their representatives in Parliament.

Basha emphasized that the Euro-Atlantic Coalition, number 4 on the ballot, has decided to offer open lists, guaranteeing that those elected by citizens will be representatives in the Assembly.

"Mr. Rama and Mr. Berisha combined their votes and closed a full 1/3 of the lists, thus creating predispositions for personal political barracks and denying the citizens of Albania the right to choose them and not the party leaders who will go to the next parliament. To this trick, the Euro-Atlantic Coalition, number 4 on the voting list, has responded with open lists. So, we have deliberately placed sympathetic people, our supporters on the closed lists who immediately after the official submission of the lists have submitted their resignations. And with us, at the Euro-Atlantic Coalition, the one who is voted for, the one who receives one more vote are the ones who go to the Albanian Parliament" - said Basha.

He also spoke about SPAK's commitment to the fight against electoral corruption. According to him, SPAK has uncovered, through judicial evidence, the links between organized crime and the Socialist Party, and the case in point is MP Jurgis Çyrbja, who is in prison. Expressing his 100% support for the Special Prosecution Office, Basha said that SPAK's commitment to these elections is optimistic, emphasizing that it will fight vote buying and voter intimidation.

"So in this regard, there is a step back compared to 2021. There is a step forward and I want to say this, that independent justice, not politics, not the government, not parliament but SPAK, has already proven with evidence, not simply with political rhetoric, but with judicial evidence, what happened in 2021, with one of Prime Minister Rama's closest associates, a former MP from Durrës, Jurgis Çyrbja, who is in prison today, because it has been proven that he and the criminal organizations known as the Durrës bandits were used to produce mandates for the SP. Which means that even Mr. Rama's mandate is the product of the cooperation of special structures of the SP with organized crime.
The other news is that SPAK is engaged in these elections. Hundreds of BKH officers, prosecutors with American, European, British support have announced that they will take an active role in these elections for the old and growing problems of the Albanian elections, "which are voter intimidation, vote buying, the role of organized crime. SPAK's commitment gives optimism in every aspect, in the fight against government corruption, part of which is electoral corruption. The coalition that I lead is the only political force that is 100% committed to supporting SPAK, not in words, but in deeds," said Basha.
