The well-known singer Genc Prelvukaj, PDK candidate for deputy
The well-known artist Genc Prelvukaj, at the same time a member of the leadership of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, will be part of the list of candidates for deputies in the February 9 parliamentary elections.
This was confirmed by Genc Prelvukaj himself for klankosova.tv during an interview where he elaborated on his vision and plans for a more developed Kosovo.
During the interview, Prelvukaj did not spare the criticism of the Kurti government, accusing it of the impoverishment of Kosovo's foreign policy and the deterioration of the citizens' standard of living.
What prompted you to engage in politics, especially in PDK?
Genc Prelvukaj: The interest in politics is not a late phenomenon, moreover, there is a chance that it was imposed because of the difficult times, the war and other challenges, in which we were formed as a generation. Somehow, the aforementioned circumstances, it seems, have influenced my interest in politics to advance to such an extent that it returns to me as a field of study in the first two university levels. Then, to know it on a practical level, about two decades ago, I became part of a political society, the Democratic Party of Kosovo, with which I have never parted ways.
How do you comment on the statements of the governors that in Kosovo we have economic growth, but also a decrease in unemployment?
Genc Prelvukaj: The party that is currently in power has for years portrayed itself as the most adequate structure for strengthening the state and developing the country. However, with the rise to power, this political formation has produced a completely opposite situation, initially ignoring most of the promises, and then getting stuck in the adequate treatment of problems from the field of education to welfare. Personally, I am of the opinion that this situation is a reflection of the lack of framework, institutional experience, political courage, and in the end it seems to be a consequence of the wrong reading of many developments during the opposition. In this context, to camouflage the lack of positive results, the ruling party has tried to impose their narrative on public opinion based on inaccurate and manipulated figures in relation to economic growth and unemployment.
Do you confirm exclusively for klankosova.tv, that you will be part of the PDK list as a candidate for deputy in the Assembly of Kosovo?
Genc Prelvukaj: Yes, I am one of the candidates from the PDK list.
If you are elected MP, what would be your first project in the Assembly and priority?
Genc Prelvukaj: I think that at this stage, it is irrational to talk about concrete actions, however, if it comes to the areas where I can be involved, then two more words can be said. There are actually some areas, such as culture, intellectual property, environment, creative industry, youth, agriculture and foreign policy, with which I have corresponded in retrospect and can treat them as topics again.
What are the main challenges you see for Kosovo today and how do you plan to address them?
Genc Prelvukaj: In the past four years, it seems that the ruling party has aggravated the problems of citizens instead of treating them seriously and offering adequate solutions. In relation to well-being, there is regression, people are now poorer, life is more expensive, in a word, the family basket is drier compared to five years ago. Then, as far as foreign policy is concerned, the republic is in its darkest time, clashing senselessly with some Albanian political societies with weight in the region, as well as with the international factor, where as a result the state takes some sanctioning measures . Against capital investments, the state is on pause and this negatively affects the development of the country, while there are reports of corrupt affairs and nepotism in almost every governmental segment, and so on. In conclusion, there are many challenges, but the Democratic Party of Kosovo has cadres that can address them properly.
What is your vision for the role of Kosovo in the region and in the international arena?
Genc Prelvukaj: The state of Kosovo should build political communication with regional forces on the basis of mutual respect and its interest, contributing to harmony and peace. As for the international community, the best vision is the one that stimulates cooperation and strengthening the alliance with developed countries, a course that should never be deviated from.
You were also in The Hague visiting the former leaders of the KLA. What were their orders?
Genc Prelvukaj: The visit lasted several hours and we discussed the family, culture, neighborhood, studies and other related topics. I have never received an order from them.
From the point of view of a historian, do you think that the territory should be negotiated in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia?
Genc Prelvukaj: History speaks of developments that happened in retrospect, so I cannot speak from the prism of science about something that is not likely. But from a political point of view, I think that it is a worn-out topic and it seems that it is no longer on the table as an option, so any discussion on this issue does not produce something valuable.
How do you see the role of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority in relation to the sovereignty of Kosovo?
Genc Prelvukaj: No political project that violates the sovereignty of the state should be taken into consideration, regardless of who comes as a proposal. In this context, the Serbian minority has the right to organize to facilitate communication between them, but only in accordance with the country's constitution.
How would you comment from the perspective of a citizen, the Kurti Government, in these years?
Genc Prelvukaj: If the political developments are read rationally, the ruling party can hardly be given positive credits, in relation to capital investments, educational reforms, the justice system, diplomatic engagement, the fight against corruption, the relationship with the media, the treatment of the environment and the battle against poverty. To make matters worse, until this time, quite a few affairs have exploded on the surface, which have irritated the society, including violations of the constitution on a continuous basis. On the other hand, the discourse followed by the government structure, where it has tried to blame and demonize the opposition political formations, the media and the society of analysts, for the failure of state duties, is unacceptable. To complete the description, the sympathizers of the government must understand that the current prime minister cannot have the monopoly of law, knowledge and truth, while everyone else, including the opposition parties, the media, the intellectual class, the war associations, trade unions, academies, regional and international allies, to be on the opposite side. Especially when you consider the fact that many interpretations of the head of government in the past have been wrong, not to mention that many of them cross the banal plane, which means that there are significant shortcomings in the correct reading of the political circumstances.
Do you think that concrete results have not been seen from the current government, from the funds allocated for development projects - for example, the Iber Lepenc canal was easily attacked with explosives?
Genc Prelvukaj: I think that public opinion does not dispute the fact that, in contrast to development projects, for these four years, the state has had a terrible stagnation. Practically, it is hardly possible to list any major investment within this mandate, unlike the time when the Democratic Party of Kosovo governed, in which case many vital projects for society and the state were completed, such as highways, stadiums, customs facilities, dormitories, bridges , school buildings, nurseries, institutional buildings, airport and youth centers, although the budget was three times smaller compared to today. As for the attack on the water channel, I think it is an issue that should be discussed separately, that is, separating it from the debate on capital investments.
Do you think that these static areas would need more specific treatment in terms of security?
Genc Prelvukaj: State actions that improve security within the country are always necessary, because initially a government structure is mandated for this task. However, if these are done only for electoral stimulation, or to camouflage regression in other areas, then they are considered useless and reprehensible actions.
The candidacy of Genc Prelvukaj marks a new commitment for the PDK, with the aim of offering new political alternatives and addressing the main challenges of the country.
The February 9 elections are expected to be an important moment for the political future of Kosovo, and Genc Prelvukaj promises to be a strong voice in representing the interests of citizens in the Assembly.
