"The rumor is 100% true"/ Director Sean Levy confirms Ryan Gosling's participation in his new film 'Star Wars; Starfighter'

Ryan Gosling is officially joining the "Star Wars" universe, taking on the lead role in Sean Levy's new film, titled "Star Wars; Starfighter," which will be released in theaters on May 28, 2027.

The announcement was made at the Star Wars Celebration held on April 17 in Tokyo, Japan. Director Sean Levy took to the stage and confirmed the rumors that had been circulating for a while: I had heard at one point that my movie was going to star Ryan Gosling, and believe me, that would be a dream come true for me. So today I want to tell you here, in this room, that this rumor is 100% true.

Shortly after, he introduced Gosling to the audience .  The 44-year-old actor did not hide his joy, revealing that he has been a Star Wars fan since he was a child. In fact, he showed a photo of his childhood Star Wars-themed sheets, which his mother had sent him. Gosling admitted that his love for "Star Wars" deeply influenced the way he sees cinema: I probably dreamed about "Star Wars" before I saw the movie. "Maybe that shaped what the movie means to me.

As for Starfighter, few details remain about the plot or Gosling's role. Sean Levy clarified that this is a standalone film, which will be neither a prequel nor a sequel, but will build on the familiar Star Wars DNA through an entirely new adventure.

As he said: The film is set in a world we've never seen on screen before. It's a new story, with new characters, in a new time period after the Battle of Exegol, which is after Episode 9. There are so many opportunities to tell stories that retain the heart, action and fun of "Star Wars," but in new and authentic ways.

The "Deadpool & Wolverine" director revealed that Starfighter is in pre-production and that filming will begin in the fall. Ryan Gosling, for his part, praised Levy's work and the film's script, saying: The script is brilliant. The story and characters are authentic and full of heart and adventure. There is no director more suited to this story than Sean. All we can hope for is that the fans are with us.
