Granit Xhaka: I was close to moving to Roma, but now I'm happy in Leverkusen

Granit Xhaka has become a leader for Bayer Leverkusen with the midfielder of Albanian origin who proved to be a key element for the team led by Xabi Alonso in winning the Bundesliga title, but also for other achievements with the Germans who are close to the Europa League final as well as being in the final of the German Cup.

But, the story could have been different for the 31-year-old as he was very close to a transfer to Roma in the past, with the coach of the yellow-reds at the time, Jose Mourinho, being a big "fan" of the midfielder.

Xhaka himself admits that he was very close to Rome, but says that because of the way it went, he is already very happy in Germany with Leverkusen.
"I was very close to Rome, I have no reason to hide it. However, the treaty was not finalized due to some small details. Sometimes things just don't happen, now I'm very happy at Leverkusen.

I played a few years ago in the Bundesliga, then I moved to the Premier League, but I don't like to compare the two championships. I only think about the present which is Leverkusen and for that I feel very happy", said Xhaka.
