The news is even more painful when we remember that just a week earlier, on June 22, 2025, Diogo Jota had married his partner Rute Cardoso, with whom he had built a stable family life. The couple were parents to three children, and had recently shared photos of their wedding on social media, where they appeared happily at the altar, surrounded by their children.

A brilliant career that was suddenly cut short
Jota was one of the most beloved figures at Anfield, having joined from Wolverhampton in 2020 for a fee of £41m. He played on the left wing and was a key contributor to Liverpool's success, with 182 appearances, 65 goals and 26 assists, as well as winning the Premier League in the 2024-25 season.
