Perez breaks Real Madrid rules, gives 250,000 euros per head to the team

There are some seemingly small things that make Real Madrid president Florentino Perez different. Real Madrid's number one doesn't sign in January, nor does he pay bonuses for winning a match or advancing to another qualifying round.

But sometimes he breaks his own rules or approach. The Madrid president, as reported by Cope and Marca, paid each player 250,000 euros for qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Champions League. The price has an explanation.

The president praised the effort made by the team this season, as they have played four more matches than in the previous format of the competition (Champions League): two more for the new group stage, plus two more to avoid direct entry into the round of 16 and instead play a qualifying play-off against City.

In total, Real Madrid have played twelve matches, compared to the 13 they needed last season to lift the trophy in London against Dortmund, while this season, if they are to go all the way and reach the Munich final, they will need a full 17 matches!

RULE –  The rule or what usually happens at Real Madrid is that the club and the players agree on all the bonuses at the beginning of the season. This comes from a conversation between the captains and the club president. It is paid for winning titles, not for specific matches, and the big prize is if success is ensured in the Champions League and then La Liga. However, this season's bonuses have been negotiated, taking into account, of course, the new Club World Cup.

If Gianni Infantino's great obsession was that the awards, which were just announced by FIFA, would surpass those awarded under the new Champions League format, the Real president has made every effort for this award so that Madrid becomes the first club to lift this new trophy. Not only because he considers it to be extremely prestigious, but because it will require a great effort between June and July, with 32 clubs competing and after a whole season.
