Tah reveals the objective: I came to Bayern to win more trophies

Bayern Munich have officially signed Germany international Jonathan Tah. The 29-year-old defender has left Leverkusen to join the Bavarians on a free transfer. Tah's transfer from Leverkusen to Bayern was expected on Wednesday afternoon, but Bayern made it official on Thursday morning, with the defender signing a contract in Munich until 2029.

The day before, Tah had completed his medical in Munich. He will wear the number 4 shirt at Bayern and is expected to stabilize the defense, which has been struggling recently. The transfer was recently considered a mere formality. Since last summer, Bayern's management wanted to bring Tah to Munich, but could not agree on a transfer fee with Leverkusen. Since then, Tah has repeatedly made it clear that he will leave the "Aspirin" on a free transfer this summer.

STATEMENT –  “I am very happy to be at Bayern Munich. I want to take responsibility here and work hard every day so that we can succeed as a team and win many titles together,” Tah said in his statement to the Munich club’s media. After a career at Hamburg, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Leverkusen, the transfer to the Bavarian giants is the next step in the 29-year-old’s career.

CLUB REACTION –  Tah is likely to become an immediate “cornerstone” in Bayern’s defense. After two excellent years at Leverkusen and with the German national team, he is likely to be a regular starter in Munich as well. “It’s no secret that we have had Jonathan Tah on our radar for a long time. We value his class. He is a guy who takes responsibility,” Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said of the 29-year-old who has played 35 times for the German national team.

THE ONLY QUESTION POINT –  However, Bayern Munich did not reveal a non-trivial detail when signing Tah. The club has not provided any information on whether the defender will be able to play for Bayern in the Club World Cup (June 14 to July 13). Officially, Tah's contract with Leverkusen is valid until June 30. It is still not clear when he will start his service in Munich. In recent days it became known that Bayern would have to pay a transfer fee to Leverkusen for Tah's participation in the Club World Cup. The amount is likely to be in the range of one million, with a single figure – whether this will happen will only become clear in the coming days.
