Wesley misses World Cup after serious injury in Brazil-Egypt friendly

Brazil have suffered a major blow ahead of the World Cup as right-back Wesley has been forced to withdraw from the squad due to a groin injury suffered in a friendly against Egypt.
The 22-year-old AS Roma player was injured a few minutes into the match and was visibly distressed, leaving the pitch in pain and in tears. He was substituted in the 17th minute, with Danilo taking his place.
According to reports after the match, his condition did not promise optimism and medical examinations have confirmed that the player will not be ready for the big tournament.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed regret for the player's loss, stressing that final tests are still awaited, but the situation is serious.
In place of Wesley, Brazil have called up Ederson to the squad, even though he does not cover the same role on the pitch, forcing the technical staff to review plans for the right-back.
