Fatal accidents at work, Eda Brahimaj: We need safety awareness, here are the
Eda Brahimaj, in charge of the Safety sector in the Labor inspectorate, invited to the column "Issue of the Day" of journalist Klevin Muka in Neës24, where accidents at work were discussed, said that inspections at the construction site where the 28-year-old lost his life this morning , have been carried out several times by the Labor Inspectorate.

Brahimaj said that this is the first case that happens in the construction sites of this entity that an employee loses his life.

She said that in the cases of accidents resulting in death, other institutions are also involved, as in the cases of the Prosecutor's Office.

Brahimaj said that it is too soon to talk about the event that happened this morning, but in the usual procedures, we have inspections, then we have reports and penalties, depending on the violations that are evident.

"In an inspection, the labor inspector advises both the employer and the employee, regarding both labor relations and safety at work. If an employee is not paid for the work they do, or works overtime and is not paid, these are all related to occupational safety and health.

The role of awareness is very big. The construction sector presents a high risk for safety and health at work. We had to create and have a fairly big rise for the awareness culture", said Brahimaj.

She said that an employee, when he sees that he is not working in safe conditions for himself, should immediately contact the Labor Inspectorate, but unfortunately, employees only complain when they do not receive their wages, while there are very few complaints regarding health and safety at work. Brahimaj said that the State Labor Inspectorate for accidents at work has imposed 148 sanctions, 179 emergency suspension measures, of which 80% are in the construction sector.

She said that the inspections are carried out without announcements, but the inspectors are equipped with the relevant permits from the regional chief inspectors, as there are no checks even during the night hours, when we notice that there are no safety conditions at work.

"Each employer must take the maximum measures regarding safety and health at work. I think that apart from the inspectorate, you should consider that we have a force of 96 inspectors, which are insufficient for all businesses. A great awareness is needed regarding safety and health at work", she said.

From May 9 to May 27, 5 citizens lost their lives, three of them construction workers, one in the quarry and another in one of the galleries in the Martanesh mine.
