An unimaginable act of violence has shocked Italian and Albanian public opinion. Ilaria Sula, a 24-year-old Albanian student with big dreams for the future, was brutally murdered by her ex-partner Mark Samson, in what appears to be an act of jealous revenge and cruelty.

According to preliminary autopsy results released by Italian authorities, Ilaria was initially struck forcefully on the head or upper body, in a manner that caused her to lose consciousness. Forensic doctors said she may have been shot and thrown to the ground by the assailant before he proceeded with the fatal stabbing that took her life.

The incident took place in Rome's "African" neighborhood, an area inhabited by students and young immigrants. Mark Samson, 27, had a turbulent relationship with Ilaria, who, according to family and friends, had tried to break up with him because of his aggressive and controlling behavior. Some of her friends have told Italian media that Ilaria feared for her life and had begun to avoid contact with her ex.

On the fateful day, Mark Samson had followed Ilaria to her apartment. According to the investigation, he had forced his way into the premises where she was staying. After a brief struggle, in which Ilaria had attempted to defend herself, she was brutally beaten, rendering her powerless to defend herself further. After that, the perpetrator fatally stabbed her several times.

The police arrested Samson immediately after the crime, while he partially admitted his guilt, claiming that he “did not plan the murder” and that “it was the moment that pushed him.” But the facts gathered by investigators speak differently – the perpetrator had the murder weapon with him and had been moving suspiciously for days.

The incident has caused a wave of anger and sadness in the Albanian community in Italy, but also in our country. Women's rights institutions have strongly condemned the act, while authorities are seeking the maximum punishment for the perpetrator.

Ilaria Sula's family has arrived in Italy to collect the girl's body, while the funeral ceremony is expected to take place in Albania. A tragic end for a girl who left to build a future, but was killed by jealousy and violence, in a story that shakes everyone's hearts.
