Debate for the People's Advocate, PS rejects Bardhi's 'formula'! Shabani is expected to receive the votes of the socialists

The Socialist Party and the Democratic Party have not found common ground for the election of the People's Advocate. Sources for Report TV indicate that the Socialist Party will not accept the formula proposed the day before by Gazment Bardhi , according to which the opposition would suggest 6 names to the majority, of which the majority would choose 3. Then, from the remaining 3 names, the opposition would choose only one name which it would propose to the plenary session for a vote.

As sources explain, the Socialist Party is expected to put to a vote in the plenary session the entire list of candidates who have received 28 signatures and not just one candidate as proposed by the DP. Report TV has learned that the Socialists will support the candidacy of Endri Shabani, who has received signatures from all DP representatives, except Sali Berisha and Flamur Noka.

The election of the Ombudsman is expected to be included on the agenda of the plenary session on December 11, when the article-by-article approval of the 2026 budget is expected. 

So far, the Democrats have supported with signatures some of them such as Jola Hysi, Adriana Kalaja, Endrit Shabani, Besim Ndregjoni, Sajmir Visha, Tartar Bazaj, Dardan Mustafa or Shkëlqim Sulo.

The mandate of the People's Advocate, Erinda Ballanca, ended in May 2022, but she continued her work while waiting for her successor for more than three years.

Several attempts by the previous parliament to find a consensual name between the SP and the DP failed, as the need for 84 votes combined with a good practice of entrusting this post to a name proposed by the opposition.

The SP already has 83 votes, and with the PSD's 3 mandates, it can easily elect a People's Advocate without the involvement of the Democratic Party.
