After almost 5 years since the start of the works, Eco Park, once the waste landfill in Porto Romano, is officially open to the public. Entrance to the sports grounds, according to the confirmation of the Durrës municipality, will be paid.
In December 2019, Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected the works in Porto Romano, where work had begun to transform the waste field into a park. In September 2022, the Municipality of Durrës told Faktoje that the project was in the approval phase and was expected to open soon.
"The Eco Park project is expected to be opened as soon as the process of approval of the facility is completed and handed over to the Municipality of Durres for use", officially announced the Municipality of Durres.
When more than 4 years have passed since the start of the works and many promises from public officials, finally the Eco Park, an investment worth 1.95 billion ALL, has been opened. Faktoje learned from the Municipality of Durrës that the Eco-Park was opened on January 15 of this year and for more than two months, it has been free for citizens.
" Eco-Park Durrës has started its functionality from January 15, 2024, it is fully functional at the service of citizens. In the Eco-Park, in addition to spending free time by citizens, sports activities take place.
Sports activities take place in the fields of basketball, tennis, football and also sports olympiads have been held by the High Schools of the city of Durres, free admission.
Ballet troupes, as well as fitness and aerobics, have also developed activities in the open gym and on the open grounds, free of charge", the institution informs.
Eco Park for a fee
The municipality emphasizes that starting from April 3, 2024, entrances to the sports fields will be paid.
" Until April 2, 2024, Eco-Park is open for free and free admission, for the purpose of promotion. In the future, entrances will be paid only for the sports fields, basketball, volleyball, tennis, football and the climbing wall" , announces the Municipality of Durrës.
In the Decision of the Municipal Council dated December 22, 2023, the tariff plan on the payment of entrance tickets has been determined. The prices vary from 500 Lek for climbing the wall, to 800 Lek and up to 1 thousand Lek for the sports grounds.

Faktoje did an on-site verification on March 27, to get a closer look at the park. The works had been completed and access to its premises was allowed. At the time of verification, the fields were closed and no sports activities were taking place.
Many promises for the Eco Park
Located about 4 kilometers from the city, the field served for decades to deposit and burn waste on an area of about 80,000 m2, filled with urban waste, inert, hazardous waste and dead animals.
In June 2018, Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke about the construction of the Eco Park that would replace the urban waste field in Porto-Romano.
In 2019, Prime Minister Edi Rama declared: "Xhuli [Zhyljen Varfaj, commanding mayor of the Durrës Municipality at the time] on June 1, 2021 should be the biggest party that the toads have ever seen in the history of Albania, here with the new park of Durrës".
Promises for the opening of the Eco Park were also made by the mayor of Durrës, Emiriana Sako. In March 2021, Sako said the park project would be completed in October of that year.
Another promise for this park was also made by Minister Belinda Balluku in May 2021. She promised that the works would be completed at the end of September.
The residents of the area have eagerly awaited the opening of the park, which is the first of this size in the entire territory of the Municipality of this city.
