EMRI/ Arrested since 2020, 33-year-old prisoner dies in Ali Dem

A 33-year-old prisoner passed away in the early hours of this morning.
33-year-old Afërdita Hajdarkola was serving a sentence for domestic violence in the Ali Dem Women's Prison, but due to health problems, she was transferred a few months ago to the Prison Hospital Center.
"The patient with compulsory treatment, Afërdita Leke Hajdarkola, born on 03.07.1992, born in Tropoja and residing in Tirana, passed away in the early hours of this morning.
She was first accommodated at the "Ali Demi" Institute for the Execution of Criminal Decisions, on 20.04.2020, and then transferred to the Prison Hospital Center (PHC), on 15.10.2020.
She had been arrested for the criminal offense of domestic violence and was suffering from serious health problems, including renal failure, for which she was being treated with dialysis.
Last evening, she was admitted to the Central Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital in serious condition, with metabolic acidosis and hypotension.
At around 3:40 in the morning, she died as a result of cardiopulmonary arrest.
"The relevant authorities were immediately notified and all investigative actions are being carried out," the announcement states.
