Flux in pediatrics, high temperatures cause diarrhea and vomiting in children

The high temperatures that have prevailed over the last few days in our country have also brought health problems for children. In the pediatrics of the city of Korça, there has been an increase in visits, with high temperature and gastrointestinal symptoms, which, according to the head of this service, are not common for the month of June.
Doctor Robert Rado has told CNA that the increase in temperatures has led to an increase in visits to pediatrics, which reach up to 70 daily visits.
"The period we are going through has brought an increase in visits to the pediatric service. The cases are caused by the increase in temperatures, which are not usual for the month of June.
During this period, we have the appearance in pediatrics of children mainly with high fever and gastrointestinal symptoms, which are related to the increase in temperature, but also some viruses in circulation, which are not characteristic for June. About 70 children are visited in the pediatric service every day."
So far, 7 children have been hospitalized in the infectious diseases department near the pediatrics, who had more severe symptoms, while the rest receive daily therapy and are followed by the family doctor.
"A part of them receive daily therapy, but we also have more serious cases, with persistent symptoms and high fever, which we treated in hospital."
In these hot summer days, the doctor appeals to parents who must be very careful with their children.
"Parents should not allow children to go outside and be unsupervised in the heat of the day. Also, parents should take care of children's nutrition, hydration and hygiene. In the coming months, given the rising temperatures, we expect an increase in cases of children with gastrointestinal symptoms and fever. July and August usually have an increase in children affected by both viruses and bacterial infections, so parents should be careful."
The care of parents towards children is the most important in these days when children are most affected by viruses and atmospheric conditions. Fortunately, there have been no serious cases of children with high fever or gastrointestinal symptoms in Korça, while the service in pediatrics continues normally, although there is an increased flow of visits.
