Journalist Osman Stafa receives death threats after denunciations at Oncology,

Osman Stafa journalist has received death threats for his investigative reporting on the alarming situation at the Tirana Oncology Hospital. After receiving a threatening message from an anonymous address on social media, the SafeJournalists Network has also reacted, strongly condemning this act of intimidation.

Their response states that "The SafeJournalists Network condemns the threatening message sent to Albanian journalist Osman Stafa, following his reporting on the conditions and service failures at the Tirana Oncology Hospital."

The threat comes after a series of complaints made by Staff about the lack of essential medicines, equipment and treatments, as well as alleged abuses against patients. The anonymous message contained vulgar language, insults and open threats, asking the journalist to stop appearing at the Oncology Department and to stop the investigations.

The purpose of the message, according to SafeJournalists and the journalist himself, is to intimidate and scare, as well as to stop reporting that exposes serious problems at this healthcare institution.

Immediately after receiving the threat, Stafa reported to the State Police, filing a criminal complaint for “threat due to duty.” Authorities have opened investigations to identify the person or group responsible behind the anonymous profile.

Despite the pressures, the journalist declares that he has no intention of giving up on his investigations, emphasizing that he is not afraid of threats and that he will continue to report on the situation in Oncology, which, according to him, directly affects the lives of patients with tumor diseases.

Osman Stafa has been identifying the problems of Oncology for years, including:

• lack of brachytherapy,

• lack of chemotherapy drugs,

• suspected cases of corruption and trafficking of biopsies to the private sector.
