The Italian court decides: Davide Pecorelli will be extradited to Albania

The Court of Appeal in Perugia has given the green light to the extradition of Davide Pecorelli to Albania. The 49-year-old Italian entrepreneur from Valtiberina was sentenced to 4 years in prison by the Puka court in Albania, for a series of crimes committed in our country.
Pecorelli staged his death in January 2021. His car was found burned in the village of Gjegjan, and human remains were also found inside, initially thought to belong to the 49-year-old. But a few months later he appeared in Italy. He was saved at sea, while sailing in a small boat.
And when he landed, he was faced with the arrest warrant issued by the Albanian court on October 2, 2022. From our country, he was accused of fraud, rape of graves, destruction of property by fire, illegal crossing of the border and actions that prevent the discovery of the truth.
The last charge was dropped, while for the other charges Pecorelli, who benefited from the shortened trial, was sentenced in April of this year to 4 years in prison by the Court of Puka.
The case of Davide Pecorelli was actually for a long time full of intrigue. Originally from San Giustino, the entrepreneur in the beauty products sector and former referee, had settled in our country, where it was initially thought to have been carbonized.
Then it reappeared in Italy, in the waters of the Tirreno Sea. He told a story like in the books, saying that he had been looking for a treasure. In fact, according to what emerged in the investigations of the Albanian authorities, in January 2024, he set fire to the car he had rented in Albania and placed bones inside it to simulate his death.
The whole event was staged because of the debts, which led him to take these actions. For these crimes, he was placed under provisional arrest in Italy. Albania asked for his extradition since 2022. And as the Albanian justice system spoke in April, this Friday it was the Italian one's turn.
The lawyers of Pecorelli, who is the father of 4 children, announced that they will appeal the decision of the Court of Appeal to extradite the 49-year-old to our country, with the argument that the sentence given to him is inversely proportional to the charges of raised. They are also known to have asked for an assessment of the conditions of the prison where their client will be transferred.
