The first case of rinderpest in the country is confirmed

The National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority announces that an isolated case of Peste de petits ruminants (PPR) has been confirmed in Albania.

The case was discovered on March 30 at a goat farm in the village of Okshatina, Bulqiza Municipality, while the analyzes were confirmed by the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute.

The authorities have taken measures: destroying the affected animals, disinfecting the farm and imposing quarantine, while safety zones have also been designated in Bulqiza and Dibër.

According to the announcement, there are no other suspected cases so far.

AKVMB calls on farmers to report any suspicious symptoms, while emphasizing that this disease is not transmitted to humans and does not pose a risk to public health.
