The 29th anniversary of the Otranto Tragedy is being commemorated this Saturday in the city of Vlora. Relatives of the victims, government representatives and citizens of Vlora have commemorated one of the most serious tragedies, that of Otranto where 81 victims lost their lives. At the initiative of the Minister of State for Parliamentary Relations and MP for the Vlora region, Erjona Ismaili, 81 chairs left empty on the seashore symbolized the victims of this tragedy, as well as a flower thrown into the sea, in memory of all those who lost their lives.

Minister Ismaili says that this is an event that hurts the city, but forgetting hurts more than the event, so it is very important to commemorate it every year. According to Ismaili, what can be done today is to guarantee that such tragedies will not be repeated.

For the families of the victims of the Otranto tragedy, this tragedy was created intentionally. According to them, the family members still face psychological violence after they have exhausted their search for justice. According to the family members, the decision of the Italian court, despite the evidence, was unjust.

On March 28, 1997, the Albanian ship with 142 people on board was sunk by Italian naval forces in the Strait of Otranto, killing 81 people who had hoped to create a better life in Italy after the unrest that had affected our country. Among the victims were children from 3 months to 69 years old.
