Bribery to avoid imposing a fine, SPAK seeks 2 years in prison for 3 former officials, including the brother of former president Nishani
The Special Prosecution Office has issued final conclusions for citizens Ilir Nishanin, Genci Hicka and Gerson Tafa who are suspected of accepting bribes in their capacity as inspectors of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Prosecutor Behar Dibra requested a 2-year prison sentence for Ilir Nishani, Genci Hicka and Gerson Tafa.
He also requested that the sentence be converted into probation for a period of 3 years, as well as the application of "the right to exercise public functions" for 3 years.
According to SPAK investigations, in 2020, these individuals received bribes worth 30 thousand lek from two doctors, Konstandin Balloma and Besim Boçi, in order to avoid being fined for treating hospital waste.
The prosecution's investigation into environmental officials began after proceedings were also initiated against two doctors for active corruption. The case against them was dismissed by SPAK due to amnesty. The defense's conclusions and the court's decision are expected in the next session.
