New details have been revealed regarding the arrests made yesterday evening by SPAK, after an operation.

Among those arrested was the head of Police Station no. 6 in Tirana Dedan Gjoni, accused of providing conditions for murder, who turns out to be the grandson of former judge Gjin Gjoni.

It is learned that Dedan Gjoni is the son of the brother of the former judge investigated for concealing wealth, who resigned before appearing before the vetting.

Judge Gjoni is a controversial figure in the justice system, considered one of the richest judges in the country according to the self-declarations submitted to the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Control of Wealth and Conflict of Interest.

He and his wife Elona Çaushi were charged by the ILDKPKI in 2014 for non-declaration of assets and conflict of interest, but the investigations of the Elbasan prosecutor's office were stopped after a series of court decisions at all three levels that first stopped the extension of the deadlines and then decided that "the fact did not exist" and that John and his wife did not have "undeclared and unjustified assets, or an illegal source of their financing."

Judge Gjoni was drawn to undergo the vetting process in 2018, while in October of the same year he received 2-year parental leave from the Supreme Council of Justice. In his letter of resignation, Gjoni claims that only the "servants of politics" and those who "sign and stamp without thinking" are passing the vetting.

After a 27-year career, Gjin Gjoni, one of the most influential people in Albanian justice, much talked about for his wealth of millions of euros and for some sensational decisions, decided to leave the judicial system urgently. Gjin Gjoni was being verified for 20 months by the Vetting Commission for the legality of his wealth, clean image and professional skills, a very long time compared to the duration of other judges. In these circumstances, Gjin Gjon's confrontation with the Vetting Commission, to familiarize himself with the findings of the Verification, was inevitable, therefore he chose to resign.

In a file referred to the prosecution, ILDKP claims that Gjin Gjoni and Elona Çaushi did not justify an asset worth about 2 million euros until 2014. To this day, there is no judicial decision to state whether Gjin Gjoni and Elona Çaushi's property is legal or not, but it is already clear that Gjin Gjoni resigned from justice on the eve of the vetting, the focus of which which is precisely the verification of wealth.
