Found dead in a swamp/Albanian man's murder in Spain revealed

After lifting the judicial secrecy order on the proceedings, the Spanish National Police has published key information regarding the murder of the 31-year-old Albanian, whose body was found last fall inside a bag in the swamp of the Casasola reservoir in Almogía (Málaga).
The investigation concludes that the murder was motivated by a settlement of scores in the context of international drug trafficking and that the victim fell into a trap set by his kidnappers, who had lured him under false pretenses to finalize an alleged transaction, ending his life.
Three people have been arrested in the province of Barcelona for their suspected involvement in the murder and have been remanded in custody by order of the competent judicial authority.
Those arrested are two men, compatriots of the deceased and connected to drug trafficking, who are considered the perpetrators of the murder, and a Spanish woman, an accomplice, who had rented a vehicle in her name and made it available to others to commit the crime.
In addition, three searches were carried out in the towns of Vallirana and Villafranca del Penedés in Barcelona, resulting in the seizure of several replica firearms, mobile phones and documents relevant to the investigation.
Missing person report
The investigation, led by agents from the Organized Crime Group of the Marbella Police Station, in collaboration with officers from UDYCO Costa del Sol and UDET Group 23 in Barcelona, began following a report filed by a woman, who reported the disappearance of her partner, a 31-year-old Albanian man, under suspicious circumstances.
With the cooperation of the woman who filed the report, investigators reconstructed the last hours of the missing man. On May 12, 2025, the couple were having lunch at a restaurant in Marbella when he received a call from alleged "friends," who told him to meet her at a popular motel in the Puerto de la Torre neighborhood of Malaga. It was the last time the woman saw her partner: The two lived in Benahavís (Málaga), where they enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle.
Initial investigations led authorities to believe that the disappearance was not intentional. The National Police found evidence that the missing man arrived at the meeting point, where he boarded a vehicle with two other passengers. They then headed towards a mountainous area near a reservoir in Almogía.
Meanwhile, as the investigation progressed, on October 14, a body shop owner found a suspicious bag in the Casasola reservoir. Inside, authorities discovered the body of a deceased person, bound with cable ties. The body, in a state of decomposition, had tattoos. In addition, cement blocks were found inside the bag, which appeared to have been used to weigh it down.
Everything suggests that the drop in the reservoir's water level after the summer season exposed the body, thwarting the perpetrators' plan to dispose of the corpse and, consequently, the evidence of the crime.
The DNA results, combined with other complementary evidence, such as clothes found on the body and several tattoos, allowed investigators to identify the deceased as the young Albanian man whose disappearance had been reported months earlier by his partner in Marbella. The autopsy also confirmed the violent cause of death.
Agents were able to track down the vehicle the missing man was in. The car in question, which had been rented from a bar in Barcelona by a woman, traveled through the area where the victim was last seen in the days before his disappearance.
Thus, the National Police identified the 58-year-old woman who had rented the vehicle used in the plot and, from her, managed to identify the perpetrators of the murder: two Albanian men, aged 36 and 45, who had traveled from Barcelona to the province of Malaga to commit the crime. The three were arrested last February for their alleged involvement in the crimes of murder and belonging to a criminal organization.
Investigators carried out two search warrants at apartments in Vallirana linked to the perpetrators, where they seized documents in the name of the only woman arrested, mobile phones and replica firearms. A third search was also carried out at the suspect's apartment in Villafranca del Penedés.
Finally, it should be noted that the victim's family was pressured with threats during the investigation, apparently by members of the criminal network, to stop the search for the victim. / C OSTA DEL SOL - Boldnews.al
