The Center for Interfaith Cooperation has expressed concern about severe air pollution in Elbasan as a result of the incinerator's malfunction and frequent fires in the landfill.
In a press release, the Center calls on the Government to invest in the construction of a new incinerator according to contemporary standards, while asking the judiciary to investigate abuses with the existing project.
It also appeals for inter-institutional cooperation for a sustainable solution and emphasizes that a clean environment is a fundamental right for every citizen.
The Center for Interfaith Cooperation seeks a permanent solution to the incinerator situation in Elbasan
The Center for Interfaith Cooperation expresses deep concern about the alarming air pollution situation in the city of Elbasan, as a result of the malfunctioning of the existing incinerator and repeated outbreaks of fires in the landfill.
This situation poses a serious risk to the health of citizens and a continuing threat to the environment and the future of new generations. In this context:
We call on the Government of Albania to urgently undertake the investment to build a new incinerator, according to modern standards, which guarantees the protection of the environment and public health.
We call on the judicial authorities to investigate as a matter of priority and bring to justice all those individuals or structures that have abused the funds and management of the previous incinerator, now out of operation.
We ask local and national institutions to cooperate closely to provide a sustainable and long-term solution to this problem that recurs every year.
We thank the responsible institutions, local and central, for the efforts so far in extinguishing the fires and stabilizing the situation.
Our center believes that a clean environment, created by God, is a fundamental right for every citizen and a moral obligation for every society that aims for sustainable development, justice, and well-being for all.
