US Embassy: Over 100-year-old historic partnership, shared vision for the future

This is the message of the United States Embassy in Tirana after the meeting of the new American Ambassador, Eric Wendt, with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha.

The American diplomatic mission places the meeting in the context of the historical relations between the two countries, from President Woodrow Wilson's support for Albania's independence and territorial integrity, to today's cooperation as allies in NATO.

“From President Wilson’s support for an independent Albania to our cooperation today as NATO allies, we continue to expand cooperation in trade, energy security, and people-to-people ties, strengthening peace and stability throughout the Western Balkans.”

The US Ambassador began official meetings with Prime Minister Edi Rama. According to the US Embassy, ​​the focus was on deepening defense cooperation, expanding trade and investment, and strengthening the fight against organized crime.

Eric Wendt officially launched the mission on September 26, with the submission of his credentials to President Bajram Begaj.

President Donald Trump's nominee to represent the United States in Albania presented the four priorities of his diplomatic mission in Tirana during the Senate hearing.

The fight against corruption and international organized crime is one of them, along with the protection of American citizens and interests.

In the field of security, Wendt has stated that he will work to strengthen defense cooperation and support Albania in fulfilling its NATO commitments, including the defense spending target.

Another pillar is economic diplomacy, aiming to expand trade, investment, and the presence of American companies in Albania.

While the fourth priority is related to the direction of the diplomatic mission and the Embassy's personnel, through the approach that Wendt has defined as the "human factor".
