Russia warns of war escalation: Placing nuclear weapons near us does not bring security

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has reacted to statements about the possibility of deploying nuclear weapons near Russia's borders, warning that such a move would not increase security, but would lead to further escalation.
Peskov said that countries that are considering allowing the deployment of nuclear weapons on their territory, near Russian borders, are "mistaken," as such a step would negatively affect the security situation.
His reaction comes after statements by Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, who said that nuclear weapons could be deployed on the country's territory if NATO makes such a decision.
The statements have brought back into focus discussions about the presence and deployment of NATO's nuclear capabilities on the alliance's eastern flank, at a time when tensions between Russia and Western countries remain high.
According to Peskov, deploying nuclear weapons near Russia's borders would not contribute to stability, but would create a more tense situation and increase the risk of escalation.
