Italian Ambassador in Tirana: We are closely following the Protest and respect

The Italian Ambassador to Albania, Marco Alberti, was present today in the city of Korça.

The Ambassador was also asked by journalists about the political and judicial situation, which have seen strong developments in recent days.

Regarding questions about the measure of "house arrest" against the former head of SHISH, Vlora Hyseni, Alberti said he had no comment.

"Then, I cannot give you any answer regarding this, because we deal with, that is, we address issues of bilateral cooperation and I cannot have any opinion regarding what you are asking me," said Alberti.

Regarding the protests that have been taking place for 117 days in Tirana, other cities in the country, as well as in the diaspora, against the Rama government, Alberti said that the situation is being followed closely and that Italy respects what is happening.

"Then, we are following the protests closely. Of course, it is not up to, it is not the duty of an ambassador representing a certain country, to express or pronounce on this. We are following the situation and we respect what is happening," the ambassador said.

On the other hand, Alberti also spoke about the strategic cooperation between the two friendly countries and Albania's European integration process.

"Then, I can stop at Italy's commitment to increase its presence in Albania and, in fact, Italy is trying to give a different content to the strategic relations with Albania. We already have investments in Albania, which reach the figure of about 1 billion euros. Also, in addition to other investments, 600 or 700 new jobs will be realized or enabled.

And it is important to give a different content to these strategic relations between our two countries, because we believe that strengthening relations in the field of economy certainly helps Albania's journey towards its membership in the European Union.

Also, important sectors where we are present are artificial intelligence and the digital sector, the defense industry, and so on.

So, our goal through our presence here is for these young people or today's children, who in the future will be adults, to stay in Korça, to make their contribution, so we strengthen our relations in order to help young people or the population to work and live in Albania, contributing to the growth and development of Albania."
