Man arrested after climbing barefoot on London's Big Ben with Palestinian

In London, police were called to the Palace of Westminster after a man was seen climbing the tower that houses Big Ben.

A photo circulating on social media shows the barefoot "climber" standing on a ledge several metres above the Elizabeth Tower, holding a Palestinian flag. The man, who posted the images from his smartphone, was arrested 16 hours later.

Police said they were called to the scene at 7:24 a.m. local time on Saturday. A fire truck raised an aerial platform to the same height as the man's position in the tower.

Three firefighters from the crane tried to talk to him. Bridge Street, at the north end of Westminster Bridge, was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the situation, police confirmed.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said crews had been deployed from fire stations in Lambeth, Chelsea, Soho and Islington. At least nine emergency services vehicles lined the road in central London as crowds watched from behind a police cordon.

The man was seen climbing the tower, while the group Palestine Action announced that it had written "Gaza is not for sale" on Donald Trump's Turnberry golf course in Scotland.

Sharing an image of the vandalism, the group wrote on X: "As Trump tries to treat Gaza like his property, he should know that his property is at his fingertips."

This form of protest came after the US president said that the US would take over the Gaza Strip and do its best there.
