Trump's new plane/ President presents luxury gift from Qatar, despite controversy

Donald Trump presented his luxurious gift, a new Air Force One aircraft, which was given to him by Qatar and has now become the official presidential plane of the United States.

The new plane eschews the Kennedy-era blue of the old plane's exterior for a bolder look, with the underside of the plane painted navy blue with a red stripe above it.

The left side of the plane, where the president boards, has the presidential seal, while the tail of the plane has a large American flag.

Trump praised the gift from Qatar, speaking after stepping off the new plane in a dramatic display as his signature song "God Bless the USA" played.

The gift from Qatar serves as a so-called "bridge" plane to transport the president until new planes ordered directly from Boeing arrive. This is currently scheduled for 2028.

The administration officially accepted a luxury Boeing 747 jet from Qatar last year for use as a presidential plane, despite questions about the ethics and legality of accepting such an expensive gift from a foreign nation.

Trump has insisted in the past that he would not fly on Qatari aircraft after leaving office.

The Air Force has said that safety modifications to the aircraft would cost less than $400 million.
