CIA analyst who revealed Israeli attack plan on Iran sentenced to 3 years in

A former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) analyst who published classified documents regarding Israel's plans to attack Iran has been sentenced to 37 months in prison.

According to what  the BBC reports , Asif William Rahman, 34, pleaded guilty in January to two charges of intentionally retaining and transmitting national defence information under the Espionage Act.

Investigators said Rahman used his high-level authorization to print, photograph and distribute classified materials, which were then published on social media, including a Telegram account linked to Iranian interests.

The documents, classified as "top secret," contained internal US assessments of Israel's plans ahead of an attack on Iran in October 2024, as well as information about Israel's military movements and nuclear capabilities - a matter that has historically not been officially acknowledged by Israeli authorities.

"For months, this defendant betrayed the American people and the oaths he took to the security of our country,"  said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Eisenberg.

The published documents circulated rapidly within intelligence networks, including the alliance known as the 'Five Eyes' (the US, Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand), raising alarm about potential damage to US strategic interests and those of its allies.

Rahman was working outside the United States and was arrested by the FBI in Cambodia, before being transported to the US territory of Guam to face justice.
