Drone in Lefkada, former Ukrainian prime minister: Forgiveness should come from

As the Greek Foreign Ministry prepares to launch an official demarche against Ukrainian authorities over the recent drone incident in Lefkada, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has stated that Russia, not Kiev, bears responsibility for the situation. In an interview with Euractiv, Yatsenyuk said that “Greece should receive an apology from Russia and Vladimir Putin,” arguing that the war launched by Moscow has created consequences that affect all of Europe.

According to him, Eastern European countries better understand the reality of the Russian threat, while some other European Union countries continue to perceive the conflict as a distant problem.

"Putin started this war 12 years ago, and many people still think they can escape its consequences. There is no longer any distance; we are all under threat," declared the former Ukrainian prime minister.

His comments come a few days after Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that the Baltic countries' concerns about Russia must also be accompanied by understanding for Athens' concerns about Turkey.

"I understand the concern of my Baltic friends about Russia, but I expect that they also understand our concerns and look towards Turkey," Mitsotakis told the Financial Times.

For his part, Yatsenyuk assessed that Turkey remains a key element of NATO's security architecture and that relations between Europe and Ankara could be more easily managed in the future if the European Union develops a stronger common defense structure. "Europe must show its strength," concluded the former head of the Ukrainian government.
