White House meeting ends without decision, Iran ceasefire deal remains on hold

Donald Trump appears to have postponed a final decision on a proposal to extend the ceasefire with Iran, after a two-hour meeting that took place late Friday (May 29) in the White House Crisis Room, US media report.
According to information, the meeting ended without any official announcement, as the issue of Iran's nuclear program remains the biggest obstacle.
Sources indicate that the two sides have not yet reached an agreement, as Tehran remains steadfast in its position and refuses to hand over its enriched uranium.
The US president had previously said he was close to reaching a deal, but a final decision had not yet been made. Another senior US government official said Washington believed the deal was close, but there were still "open issues" in the negotiations outside of the nuclear program, such as the release of frozen Iranian funds.
As Trump's cabinet deliberated on the final decision, Tehran confirmed that the two sides were close to a deal, but it did not include enriched uranium. An official told Reuters that the memorandum of understanding did not address any issues related to the nuclear program, contradicting Trump's earlier statement about "destroying" uranium.
Iran's Fars news agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard, denied some of Trump's comments and cited "informed sources" according to which the Memorandum of Cooperation "is in the final stages of approval in Iran and the final decision has not yet been made."
Fars added that Trump is trying to “show a fake victory” and “misinterprets” the text of the Memorandum of Understanding. The sources cited by Fars stressed that after the lifting of the US blockade, Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz “according to the rules that Iran will establish itself,” including “monitoring and inspecting ships, providing services and security measures.”
Fars also reported that Iran will receive an “immediate payment of $12 billion” from frozen assets and that there will be no further negotiations until their payment. US officials claim that Iran will receive the frozen funds only as part of a final nuclear deal.
The agency also reported that the Memorandum includes a ceasefire in Lebanon “according to Hezbollah’s position.” US officials said the agreement would include a ceasefire in Lebanon.
Key points of the memorandum according to Trump:
Iran must commit to never having nuclear weapons.
Immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz for free navigation in all directions, without transit fees.
Removal or neutralization of all naval mines.
Lifting the American naval blockade.
The withdrawal of Iran's enriched uranium from underground facilities and its destruction by the US in cooperation with Iran and the IAEA.
No financial transactions between the parties “until further notice.”
