Hajj season ends, Saudi Arabia: Over 1.7 million pilgrims in 2026

Saudi Arabia has announced the successful conclusion of this year's Hajj season, stating that an integrated system of security, organization and services enabled pilgrims to perform the rituals with ease and tranquility.
The announcement was made by Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, deputy governor of the Mecca region and deputy chairman of the Permanent Committee for Hajj and Umrah, in a televised statement on the eve of the end of the annual pilgrimage.
Prince Saud said that the 2026/1447 Hajj season witnessed "an integrated system of security, organization and services" that allowed pilgrims to perform the rituals in a calm and safe manner.
He emphasized that the success of the Hajj does not mark the end of work, but the beginning of new responsibilities, reaffirming Saudi Arabia's commitment to maintaining its role in serving Islam and Muslims.
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Statistics said the total number of pilgrims this season reached 1,707,301, including 1,546,655 pilgrims from abroad representing 165 nationalities. Another 160,646 pilgrims performed the Hajj within Saudi Arabia.
The total surpassed last year's figure of 1,673,230 pilgrims, but remained below the more than 1.83 million pilgrims registered in 2024. The annual Hajj season ends on Saturday.
Hajj rituals officially began on Monday with the arrival of pilgrims in Mina, in western Saudi Arabia, amid extensive security services and measures to facilitate the pilgrimage.
The six-day Hajj season includes a stay at Arafat on Tuesday, nights in Muzdalifah, the symbolic stoning of Satan, and the farewell circumambulation of the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
