The transgender debate ignites the internet in Albania: If you have testicular

Following the approval of medical criteria, clinical procedures, and monitoring of hormonal therapies for transgender people by the Ministry of Health, which will be covered by public funds, criticism has erupted online.

One of the harshest reactions was that of lawyer Genc Sejko, who wrote:

"If you have testicular cancer, the government can't help you because there's no money for therapy. If you want to have them removed altogether because you feel like a woman inside, the government will find the money."

Pastor Akil Pano has also reacted against the decision on hormone therapy for transgender people.

The pastor emphasizes that the whole problem with the decision lies in the fact that children aged 14 and 16 will be included here. Further, Pano adds that through this decision, our national culture is being transformed.

"One of the effects that accompanies the gender equality law is the hormonal therapy that prepares for surgical interventions for the transition of an individual who declares himself transgender. The problem here is the fact that minors are affected."

"If it's about a person, let's say that he's over 18, who are adults, we have nothing to say. As long as children are affected here, our 16 and 14 year olds, then this is a big alarm for Albanian society. It's something that's not just an element. These are the laws of the extreme left that aim to transform the national culture, what we know as tradition, family honor," said Akil Pano.

While journalist Ermelinda Hoxhaj says:

"Our healthcare system lacks many things: medicines, conditions, dignified treatment for patients. But it seems that hormone therapy for adolescents has become a priority. A young person at that age is still forming their identity, thoughts, and self."

But if after some time he changes his mind, the consequences are irreversible. The body, physical and psychological health can be affected forever. Instead of investing in psychological support, education and long-term care for young people, a treatment with serious consequences is being normalized.

This is not hatred towards anyone; it is fear and concern about policies and decisions that could change a teenager's life forever. Where the hell is this country going?!

Activist Marinela Pasbakhsh also spoke out against the initiative, emphasizing that it would lead to a massacre of children, as has happened in the US.

She also pointed out the fact that this therapy will be offered in a country that has no money for morphine for cancer patients.

"One thing we should not keep silent about and accept is a very serious thing, as you will face the consequences in 5 years, your child on the verge of adolescence will be indoctrinated at school, the entire society will be working against your role as a parent."

You will lose the voice you have, the love you have. Stand up and take it very seriously, don't accept this, it's shameful.

We are talking about an Albania that does not have the finances to finance morphine for patients in the final stages of cancer.

We are talking now about millions of euros going to butcher our children. This is terrible.

"Stand up, parents, because you will see the consequences in America. Changing gender at 14 years old is terrible. Advice from the heart, don't accept it," said the activist.

According to the guidance published the day before, treatment will be offered to both adults and adolescents from the age of 16, while in special cases it may also be considered from the age of 14, based on the assessment of specialists and the approval of the family.

The decision emphasizes that hormone therapy will be accessible to transgender men through the hormone testosterone, as well as to transgender women through estrogen and antiandrogens.

The ministry argued that this decision comes as an attempt to avoid informal treatments and lack of medical monitoring, a situation that many transgender people in Albania have faced so far.

On the other hand, the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Eugena Tomini, clarified today that the guideline on hormonal treatment constitutes a clinical guidance document and not a final therapeutic protocol.

In a statement made today, Tomini explains that the guide was drafted based on international practices and recommendations, as well as the evaluation of a multidisciplinary team of specialists.

The Deputy Minister further emphasizes that the guide refers only to adults in this target group, in accordance with the legislation in force and on the basis of individual informed consent./VOX
