Finland breaks record, temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius for two consecutive

Finland has recorded 14 consecutive days of temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius, setting a new national record for the weather and surpassing the previous record from 1972, the Finnish Meteorological Institute reported, according to the Helsinki Times.

The threshold was crossed again yesterday in Parikala, where temperatures reached 30.3 degrees Celsius. The previous record for 13 consecutive days – above 30 degrees Celsius – was recorded in 1972.

This is the most intense and sustained heat wave in Finland's history, dating back to 1961. The long period without rain has left much of Finland's land extremely dry.

The Meteorological Institute has issued warnings due to heat and forest fires in large parts of the country. The heat is expected to continue until the weekend. According to forecasts, rain is likely in some parts of Lapland and eastern Finland.

By Sunday, the unsettled weather could cover wider areas, including the west coast and central Finland. According to meteorologist Ville Siiskonen, temperatures peaked in the southeast and in parts of Northern Ostrobothnia.
