Former American Airlines flight attendant sentenced to 18 years in prison for secretly photographing underage passengers in airplane restroom

A former American Airlines flight attendant was sentenced to 18.5 years in prison after being found guilty and receiving a sentence of nearly 20 years in federal court in Boston, which will be followed by 5 years of supervised release.
Estes Carter Thompson III, of North Carolina, was arrested in January 2024 and charged with attempted sexual exploitation of children and possession of child sexual abuse materials involving a prepubescent minor.
The incident occurred in September 2023, when a 14-year-old girl discovered her phone taped to the toilet seat during a flight from Charlotte to Boston.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that Thompson had enrolled at least five girls, ages 7 to 14, over a nine-month period. Prosecutors said in court documents that the victims were deprived of a sense of safety and trust in the world, leaving them with deep psychological trauma.
