Giorgia Meloni heads to the US, meeting with Trump in the Oval Office on Thursday to discuss tariffs

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has arrived in the United States of America to hold a meeting with US President Donald Trump.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at 12:00 local time, or 18:00 European time.

The Prime Minister and the Italian delegation will be guests of President Trump at the White House, where they will remain until the end of the visit.

Meloni is the first leader who will have the opportunity to negotiate and reach a trade agreement with the US, an attempt that comes at the height of the climate created by Donald Trump's tariff war on the EU and other countries around the world.

Before leaving for Washington, Meloni said that the situation is complex. She addressed the citizens with a message in which she said that the Italian government will continue its efforts to ensure that Italian products and brands always find their way to other markets.

ANSA reports that the day before the departure, Meloni had a long phone conversation with Ursula Von Der Leyen. The President of the European Commission and the head of the Italian government have agreed on the European demands towards the US in this call, while it has been said earlier that the main proposal will be a free trade area with zero US-EU customs tariffs on both sides of the Atlantic.
