Germany distances itself from the conflict with Iran, Foreign Minister Wadephul: We will not become part of the conflict

Germany has no intention of participating in a possible international mission to protect merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said today.
"Will we soon become active participants in this conflict? We will not," Wadephul said in an interview with ARD television, responding to a question about the possibility of expanding the naval operation in the Red Sea to the Strait of Hormuz.
"We will not participate in that conflict," he said, adding that he believes security in the Strait of Hormuz can only be achieved through negotiations with Iran.
He also stressed that the operation in the Red Sea has so far been ineffective.
"That's why I'm very skeptical that this action will also lead to greater security in the Strait of Hormuz," he said.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard closed the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for US-Israeli attacks on Iran, which led to a sharp increase in oil prices on the world market.
