Greece is scorching, temperatures expected to reach 43 degrees in the shade

After many days of scorching temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius in the second hottest June since 2010 along with last year, Greek meteorologists are warning of a new heat wave from the end of this week and in the coming days.

According to them, a rapid increase in temperatures is expected during the coming week, with the thermometer reaching - in many areas - up to 43 degrees Celsius.

Despite the fact that this heat wave will retreat from Central Europe in the next 24 hours, Greece will again find itself under the influence of very hot air masses - they say. Its peak is expected to be between Monday and Thursday, from July 7 to 10, with meteorological conditions that will become particularly dangerous, especially in urban centers and continental areas, where temperatures will remain high even at night.

Greek authorities have taken measures to cope with the heat wave since last month, especially in tourist areas such as the Acropolis, where special care has been taken due to the large number of tourists.

The municipality has also opened air-conditioned centers available to people, while there is also a telephone number for anyone who needs medical advice due to the heat.

Doctors advise residents not to throw away garbage during the hottest hours of the day, to stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, and limit their movements.

Authorities have banned work for some outdoor occupations such as builders and delivery drivers from 12:00 to 17:00 local time.

Greece often experiences hot and dry summers, but heat waves with many days and extremely high temperatures have become more frequent in recent years, along with forest fires, as a result of climate change.

In recent days alone, hundreds of Greek firefighters have faced three major fires on the island of Chios, on the outskirts of Athens and in several areas around Thessaloniki.
