Netherlands bans use of fireworks, harmful to citizens and the environment

From January 1, 2026, it will no longer be possible to purchase and use fireworks for private use in the Netherlands.

This is what the Senate has decided, which voted in favor of the ban at the national level.

However, time is short and many people are skeptical that the ban will actually be implemented starting next year.

To enter into force, the law must first be accompanied by a General Administrative Regulation, which will be drafted by Undersecretary of State Thierry Aartsen (VVD), responsible for Infrastructure and Water Management.
