Magnitude 5.6 earthquake strikes Peru-Ecuador border region

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck the border region between Peru and Ecuador on Thursday, the German Center for Geoscientific Research (GFZ) reported.
The earthquake was recorded in the early hours of the morning, but so far there are no reports of casualties or major material damage. Local authorities in both countries are monitoring the situation and have called for vigilance, especially in rural areas that may be more exposed to aftershocks or landslides.
According to preliminary data, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in a deep mountainous area along the border, which helped mitigate its impact on populated areas.
Peru and Ecuador are located on the so-called "Pacific Ring of Fire," an area of high seismic and volcanic activity, where the collision of tectonic plates regularly causes powerful earthquakes.
