Iran: We will close the Strait of Hormuz if the US blockade continues

Iran has warned that it will close the Strait of Hormuz again if the US blockade of Iranian ports continues.

"With the continuation of the blockade, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open," Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf wrote on social media this morning.

He added that passage through this waterway, vital to the global oil and gas market, would take place along a "designated lane" and only with "Iranian authorization."

After weeks of blockade due to the US-Israeli war against Iran, the leadership in Tehran declared yesterday that oil tankers and commercial ships could once again pass through the Strait of Hormuz during the ceasefire.

US President Donald Trump also announced the reopening of the strait, but stressed that the US would maintain its naval blockade, which only applies to ships entering and leaving Iran.

President Trump's statement on his Truth Social network that the American blockade will continue "until the full completion of our agreements with Iran," caused strong reactions in Tehran.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei also warned the United States.

According to the Tasnim news agency, he stated that the naval blockade constitutes a violation of the ceasefire and will bring an appropriate response from Iran.

Ghalibaf stressed that whether the strait will be open or closed, as well as the rules governing it, will be determined on the ground, "not by social media."

He accused Trump of false claims and added that the US will not achieve progress in negotiations this way.
