New details have been learned from surprise checks carried out at the High Security Prison in Peqin, where authorities have discovered an arsenal of prohibited items and serious violations of internal security rules.
The operation conducted today by the Prison Police, with the support of special forces and other penitentiary structures, included a complete search of all premises of the institution, from the cells and regime 41 bis, to the library, gym and kitchen.
During the search, dozens of improvised cold weapons were seized, including elaborate knives and screwdrivers, scissors, forks, melted cables and various electronic devices, which were suspected of being used for illegal communication or could be transformed into dangerous tools.
In some cases, illegal interference in the institution's electrical system, through modified circuits, has also been detected. A suspected quantity of narcotics has also been identified and seized, for which investigations have immediately begun.
The operation was developed using advanced technology, including scanners, special detectors, monitoring drones and trained anti-drug dogs, significantly increasing the efficiency of the controls.
As part of immediate measures to increase security, the transfer of two life-sentenced prisoners, considered to be of high risk, to other penitentiary institutions has also been ordered.
