War in the Middle East, Iran reacts: We are considering new US proposals, but we

Iran has received "new proposals" from the United States in preparation for talks aimed at permanently ending the war in the Middle East, the Supreme National Security Council said today, adding that Iranian negotiators will not make "any compromises."

"In recent days, during the presence in Tehran of the commander of the Pakistani armed forces, who acted as a mediator, the Americans presented new proposals. Iran is currently considering them and has not yet responded," the body said, according to the Irna news agency.

Earlier, Iran said it was increasing control of the Strait of Hormuz, warning sailors that the vital sea route had been blocked again, but Donald Trump said Tehran could not blackmail the United States by closing the strategic passage.

Tehran said it was responding to the ongoing US blockade of Iranian ports, calling it a violation of the terms of the ceasefire, after Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei warned that Iran's navy was ready to inflict "new bitter defeats" on its enemies.

Naval sources said at least two ships reported being shot at while trying to pass through the strait.

In Mumbai, an Indian government source told Reuters that India had summoned Iran's ambassador for explanations after an Indian-flagged tanker carrying crude oil was attacked while trying to pass through the strait.
