Irish crime boss Daniel Kinahan arrested in Dubai

Daniel Kinahan, considered by international authorities to be a key figure in organized crime, has been arrested in Dubai as part of an investigation into serious criminal activities.

According to reports, the arrest was carried out on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by the Irish authorities, while the operation was carried out by the United Arab Emirates Police after an intensive period of surveillance and searches.

Authorities confirm that the arrest followed the submission of a dossier from Ireland detailing suspicions of Kinahan's involvement in an international organised crime network. The Dubai prosecutor's office has initiated legal proceedings to extradite him to Ireland.

An Garda Siochana (Irish National Police and Security Services) stated that it is aware of the arrest and described it as an important example of international cooperation against cross-border organized crime.

Meanwhile, Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin stressed that the arrest confirms the effective functioning of the extradition agreement between Ireland and the United Arab Emirates.

Kinahan had been based in Dubai for years and was considered the leader of a powerful drug cartel. In 2022, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on him and his family, identifying them as leaders of a global criminal network.

In addition to the underworld, he also had connections to sports through the boxing management company MTK Global, which represented over 100 boxers, including well-known names such as Tyson Fury and Carl Frampton.

His name has also been linked to the bloody conflict known as the Hutch-Kinahan feud, a clash between criminal groups in Ireland that has caused dozens of victims over the years.

Authorities in Dubai have announced that the arrest is part of efforts to combat international crime, while extradition procedures are expected to continue in the coming days.
