Italy and Greece call on Israel for restraint: Do not touch activists on flotilla

Italy and Greece have jointly called on Israel to guarantee the safety of international activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, which is traveling to Gaza with humanitarian aid.
In a joint official statement, Rome and Athens demanded that Israeli authorities ensure "the safety of the participants and allow all necessary consular protection measures."
The flotilla includes activists from many countries, including climate activist Greta Thunberg. In a video shared from aboard one of the ships, an Israeli warship is seen supposedly approaching the flotilla.
Meanwhile, Italy and Greece have called on the activists themselves to accept a compromise proposal: hand over the aid to the Catholic Church, which would be able to distribute it to Gaza without direct confrontations with Israel.
But activists have rejected this proposal, stressing that their mission is not just about delivering aid, but about challenging the naval blockade of Gaza, which they call illegal.
