Magyar sworn in as Hungary's prime minister

Center-right leader Peter Magyar was sworn in as Hungary's prime minister on Saturday, taking office on promises of change after years of economic stagnation and strained relations with key allies under his predecessor Viktor Orban.
Hungary's Tisza Party won parliamentary elections in April with a landslide, gaining a majority capable of changing the constitution.
Millions of voters are pinning their hopes on the winner of the election to restore the rule of law in this Central European country, and repair its damaged relationship with the European Union.
Brussels and Kiev are optimistic that relations with the new Hungarian leader will be more constructive than with Orbán, who is friendly to Russia.
The return of funds confiscated by Hungary from Ukraine and the lifting of Budapest's veto on a large EU loan for Kiev are signs that things are indeed moving in this direction.
The Magician now faces internal pressure to focus on the high cost of living and anti-corruption reforms. While the public is broadly pro-EU, it is divided over support for Ukraine.
Observers note that if Magjia fails to meet expectations or appears to be out of step with public demands, support could quickly erode and his parliamentary majority could come under pressure.
