Palestine International Marathon Returns! Sad Scenes, Young People on Crutches,

Palestinians and runners from different countries around the world participated in the 10th edition of the Palestine International Marathon, which took place after a two-year hiatus due to the war between Israel and Hamas.

The marathon began on Friday in the city of Bethlehem, while a symbolic race was also organized in parallel in the Gaza Strip. The full 42.195-kilometer race began in the early hours of the morning, with the starting point near the Church of the Nativity in the center of Bethlehem.

Footage broadcast by international media showed the participation of people with disabilities affected by the war, turning the activity into a symbol of resistance and hope.

Marathon coordinator Itidal Abdul Ghani told the Turkish Anadolu Agency that this year's event had as its main message "the unity of the homeland."

As part of the event, a 5-kilometer race was also held in central Gaza, from the Wadi Gaza Bridge to the north. Organizers also held a virtual marathon from April 17-21, in which over 5,000 people from 88 countries around the world participated.

According to the organizers, the total number of participants in all marathon-related activities exceeded 13,000 people, including 2,523 Gaza runners and about 1,000 foreign participants from 75 countries.
