Nancy Pelosi ends her political career: I will not run for re-election to Congress

Former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has announced that she will not run for re-election to Congress, ending one of the longest and most influential careers in American politics.
Pelosi, who made history as the first woman to hold the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, made the announcement through a video message to her voters.
“I will not seek re-election to Congress,” she said. “My message to the city I love is this: San Francisco, know your strength. We have made history, we have achieved progress, and we have always been a pioneer.”
She added: "Now we must continue to do the same, participating fully in our democracy and fighting for the American ideals we hold so dear."
With this decision, Nancy Pelosi ends an era in American politics, where for decades she has been one of the most powerful and influential figures in the Democratic Party and in Washington.
