NATO denies tensions with Washington: There is no drama unfolding

Despite the harsh tones of the administration of United States President Donald Trump towards Europe, NATO sees no signs of a crisis in transatlantic relations and remains confident that the new defense plans will be implemented.
The statement comes amid ongoing debate over the United States' future role in the Alliance and Washington's demands that European countries significantly increase defense spending.
The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, said that European allies are already reacting to American demands and moving towards the Alliance's new objectives.
According to him, NATO has a clear planning mechanism that will enable member countries to gradually increase military capacities and reach the spending target of 5 percent of Gross Domestic Product.
"We have a defense planning process in NATO that gives us the capabilities we need and they will be built over time," stated Cavo Dragone.
He also downplayed political tensions between the Alliance and Washington, emphasizing that in military terms there is no real crisis.
"From a military point of view, there is no drama unfolding," he said.
The admiral's comments came after statements by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth during the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore, where he warned that European countries and NATO allies must make important decisions about the future of defense.
In recent months, reports have increased that Washington may reduce its military presence in Europe and transfer more responsibility for the continent's security to allies.
According to the German magazine Spiegel, such scenarios are being considered within NATO as a "turning point," which could force European countries to accelerate the strengthening of their defense capabilities.
