Hita suspends Vlora Police Director for misreporting citizen's arrest during protest in Zvërnec

Vlora Police Director Elidon Çela has been suspended from duty through a decision by the General Director of Police Skënder Hita.

According to the announcement regarding today's protest in the Zvërnec area, an incorrect report was made by the Vlora Police, which said that a citizen had forcibly entered the construction site perimeter.

The General Director of the State Police has decided to immediately suspend the Director of the Vlora Local Police Directorate from his duties, stating that the public's trust in the State Police is the most important value and its violation cannot be justified under any circumstances.

The announcement also emphasizes that regarding the claims of the protest in question, we would like to inform you that they have been followed carefully and the fenced territory turns out to be entirely private property, with a regular mortgage document, as well as legal authorization for the fence.

Reaction of the General Directorate of the State Police:

The General Directorate of the State Police publicly apologizes for the erroneous reporting of the Vlora Local Police Directorate regarding the citizen, who was not in fact forced inside the construction site perimeter, as reported.

In these circumstances and despite the fact that the statement of the Vlora Local Police Directorate is correct in all other respects, the General Director of the State Police has decided to immediately suspend the Director of the Vlora Local Police Directorate from his duties. The public's trust in the State Police is the most important value and its violation cannot be justified under any circumstances.

Regarding the claims of the protest in question, we would like to inform you that they have been followed carefully and the fenced territory turns out to be entirely private property, with a regular mortgage document, as well as legal authorization for the fence.

Therefore, we take advantage of the opportunity to address the citizens who are protesting, emphasizing that any claim over private property or its development is addressed to the Court.

The State Police has a legal duty to protect the integrity of any private property that possesses proper legal documentation.
