They stopped 41 ships and arrested over 400 activists heading to Gaza, Netanyahu congratulates the Israeli navy

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the Israeli navy for capturing an international ship that was attempting to break the naval blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.

"I congratulate the soldiers and naval commanders who completed their mission during Yom Kippur in the most professional and efficient manner ," Netanyahu said in an official statement.

"Their action prevented dozens of ships from entering the war zone and repelled a campaign against Israel ," he added.

According to an Israeli official, more than 400 activists aboard 41 ships of the flotilla were arrested during the operation.

"During an operation that lasted about 12 hours, naval forces prevented a large-scale invasion attempt by hundreds of people who had expressed the intention to violate the legal blockade of the Gaza Strip," the official said, requesting anonymity.

After the operation was completed, all participants were safely transported to the port of Ashdod, where they were then taken into custody by the Israeli police.
